Port Columbus Airport’s most on-time and delayed airlines in 2013



At we think few things can ruin a good vacation more than a delayed flight.

Specifically for Port Columbus International Airport (CMH), analyzed raw data released this week by the Department of Transportation detailing the on-time performance of airlines during all of 2013. The DOT defines an on-time flight as one that arrives or departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.

For Port Columbus in 2013…

American Eagle was the lowest ranked

One of Port Columbus’ largest airlines, American Eagle, the regional subsidiary of American Airlines, had the worst on-time performance to and from CMH, with just 69% of flights arriving on-time in 2013. The average flight (counting both on time and late flights) arrived 17 minutes late. American Airlines, its mainline parent, was more punctutal with 77% of flights on time.

US Airways leads at Columbus

US Airways had the best on-time record with 90% of flights on time, much better than its national average of 84%. The average US Airways flight arrived or departed one minute earlier than scheduled in 2013.

Southwest – Columbus’ largest had a middle of the road year  

Southwest, with the most flights to and from Columbus, over 15,000 in 2013, had a middle of the road record with 78% of flights arriving on-time. Its merger partner AirTran fared better with 83% of flights on-time.

Port Columbus similar to national averages

Port Columbus’ on-time performance was similar to national averages last year, with 78% of flights on time. Early and late arrivals averaged to a typical flight arriving 10 minutes late.

“Columbus saw a wide range of performance among airlines,” said Brian Karimzad, director of “US Airways and Delta were clear standouts, with each operating almost 90% of their flights on-time in 2013.”
