At MileCards.com we think few things can ruin a good vacation more than a delayed flight.
Specifically for Nashville International Airport (BNA), MileCards.com analyzed raw data released this week by the Department of Transportation detailing the on-time performance of airlines during all of 2013. The DOT defines an on-time flight as one that arrives or departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.
For Nashville in 2013…
American Eagle and ExpressJet were most delayed
American Eagle and ExpressJet each only operated 71% of their flights to and from Nashville on-time in 2013, compared to a 77% average for all airlines operating at Nashville. ExpressJet is a carrier that operates regional jets for United, American, and Delta, with United branded flights the most common at Nashville.
US Airways and Delta deliver punctuality
US Airways was not only on-time, with 88% of flights arriving and departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time, it also delivered better performance to Nashville than other airports. Its national on-time average was just 84%. Delta also delivered a strong year for Nashville fliers with 87% of flights on-time. American Airlines did much better than its national average as well for Nashville fliers, with 83% of flights on-time versus 78% across all airports.
Southwest fills the middle
Southwest, with the most flights to and from Nashville, over 55,000 in 2013, fell in the middle of on-time rankings for Nashville, with 77% of flights on-time.
Nashville close o national averages
Nashville’s on-time performance was similar to national averages last year, with 77% of flights on time versus a 79% national average. Early and late arrivals averaged to a typical flight arriving 9 minutes late.
“Nashville had a decent year for on-time flights,” said Brian Karimzad, director of MileCards.com. “But the bigger the airplane, the more likely you were to be on time, with mainline flights from US Airways, Delta, and American arriving more punctually than many of the regional carriers.”
