Free United Club card for one year offer – targeted

by on Fri September 4, 2015 • 21 Comments

United Club membership can cost up to $550 a year. But if you are a Premier level elite flyer on United (25,000 or more qualifying miles per year) and do not currently hold the United Club Card (a Visa credit card), then you might be eligible for an offer of free United Club membership for one year.

By applying for the United Club Card from Chase which includes full membership to the United Club. Normally the card costs $450 per year, but if you are a Premier member of United Mileage Plus there is an offer that waives that annual fee the first year.

Here’s how to find the offer…

  1. Log into your Mileage Plus account at so it knows you’re a Premier member
  2. Targeted offer page (this has worked for some readers in the past, but no guarantees)

It might show a screen like the below with an offer that says ‘$0 Intro Annual Fee the First Year.’

(The information related to the United MileagePlus Club Card has been collected by and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer of this card.)

If it doesn’t…and you see either a $100 statement credit offer, or a generic United page, then close the window that popped up, and click the link again. See discussion on FlyerTalk.

Some people have reported luck getting this offer by stopping into a Chase branch to apply in person.

As an update… followed directions (UNited Miliage Plus website, targeted tab) and was approved (so the offer is still viable) 8/1/17

I’m Silver Premier and was able to get the United Club Card with no annual fee the first year by logging on at and then following the link to apply.

I have the chase explorer. I followed your link and qualify for the $0 intro.
However, $450/year is the largest annual fee of any card I can apply for today.
I love all of the benefits the Club Card has to offer.
To be honest, I hate waiting on line while all others board the plane first.
Are there any promotions, tasks, surveys, etc.. I can take advantage of annually, to offset the expense?

@Mike – Unfortunately no, other than earning miles by spending, there’s no real way to offset that cost after the first year. But if all you’re really interested in is the priority boarding, just get the $95 United Explorer card, which has the same priority boarding benefit as the Club.

Thank you. I have the $95 explorer card. The benefits for the club card are better. Thank you for the feedback.

I have the mileage plus explorer card already- will this offer still work for me or is this only for “NEW” applications?

@Yasmene – The Explorer and Club are considered entirely separate. So if you find that you are targeted for the offer, then yes you’d be eligible if approved. But you have to see that you are specifically targeted for the offer when entering your MileagePlus number.

I already have the card but it doesn’t have the newly installed security chip. Could I request one with the new security chip?

I have filled out the application form for the Club card. Under the “Employment section I have entered “Self; Tourism” and it refuses to take that. I am a Travel/Cruise Director, free lance, and am very gainfully employed by many different travel companies. I am not employed solely by one company. I did exactly what the form requested. Why was the answer not accepted?

@Debbie – The Club Card’s big benefit differences are 1) you get membership to the United Club lounges, and 2) you earn 1.5 miles per dollar on your spending instead of 1 mile per dollar.

As for your free bag with the Explorer. They require that you buy your ticket with the Explorer Card, then the system will automatically know to give you a free bag. Showing your card at the airport if you didn’t use the card to buy your ticket may not be enough to get you the free bag according to the rules.

I have a mileage plus explorer card now. what is the benefit of getting this card? (what is the difference between mileage plus explorer card and the mileage plus club card?)

@John – Unfortunately no, there is no extra offer for intro miles. Just the standard 1.5 miles per dollar spent.
