Or, consider other cards for 50,000 more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.
Earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.
$1,000 toward travel or transfer to United, Southwest, and more.
That's $750 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards® or 1:1 point transfer to leading airline and hotel loyalty programs.
Savvy holders of the Fidelity Investment Rewards American Express have used it as a lucrative way to earn Aeroplan miles. Basically the Fidelity American Express earns 2 points per dollar on all purchases, and in turn these points (called Worldpoints) can be transferred 1:1 into Air Canada Aeroplan miles. These are useful because Aeroplan is part of the Star Alliance, which means the miles can be used for global travel on United, US Airways, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and many more. No other card let you earn 2x traditional airline miles per dollar on all spending.
Well, the jig is up. Worldpoints began notfying cardholders in its program that the transfers to Aeroplan will end in January 2013. (courtesy Dan’s Deals).
So the Fidelity card now only earns points that can be used as cash value toward flights, which means no lucrative redemptions using the Aeroplan reward chart for international trips.
So what’s the alternative for maximum value with a consumer card…
Well there is the Chase combination…
All of these points are earned as Ultimate Rewards that can be transferred into United, Southwest, British Airways, Hyatt, Marriott, and Korean Airlines accounts. It’s not quite double miles on all spending, but it gets close.
Or, you can earn in points that are highly regarded as being worth over 2 cents per mile. The Starwood Preferred Guest American Express earns some of the most valuable points available, we think they’re worth 2.5-3 cents each or better if you use them for hotel nights. So even though it only earns one point per dollar in spending the underlying value is very high.
