United Club credit card does *not* offer waived change fees

by on Thu June 28, 2012 • No Comment

We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about change fee waivers and the United Club credit card from Chase.

Not sure how this thought got started, but some people are being led to believe the United Club credit card offers a waiver of change fees for award or other tickets.

This is *not* the case.

The confusion seems to be coming from something that *is* a benefit…

A waiver of the ‘close in’ booking fee for award tickets. That fee is charged for making a new award reservation within 21 days of departure. That’s completely separate though from a change fee, which is assessed if you make changes to your origin or destination, or try to change the date within 21 days of departure.

United award ticket date changes with the same origin / destination are always free more than 21 days in advance, regardless of the credit card you hold.
