How to transfer Hilton Honors points to friends for free

by on Wed April 26, 2017 • 7 Comments

Hilton HHonors

You can now transfer Hilton Honors points from one account to another free of charge.

Previously, Hilton charged $2.50 for every 1,000 points you transferred, so this is a big improvement.

All you need to do is go to this page, sign in with your Honors account number, and you can transfer points to another member.

The limits are…

  • You can transfer up to 6 times a year
  • There’s a maximum of 500,000 points per transfer
  • You can transfer as few as 1,000 points
  • You can receive a maximum of 2 million points in a year

You can choose anyone you’d like to receive the transfer, and transfers post within 24 hours.

Transfers are also completely reversible using the same method, but when your recipient transfers back, they’ll be dinged for one of their 6 transfers per year.

Honors also has a feature called points pooling that works almost exactly the same way.

With point pooling, you can choose up to 10 people to be in a pool, and request they send points to your account.

It’s also free, and it’s like each member did their own transfer to your account. What’s different is you can do up to 6 pooling transactions a year, on top of the 6 regular transfers per year.

Beware that points earned by pooling and transfers all count toward the annual 2 million point limit for receiving points.

Points pooling is activated when you enter the emails of up to 10 friends on the pool points page.

People in your points pool will get an email like this one…

Each of them can click on the ‘pool your points’ button to enter how many points they want to transfer, and you’ll receive them.

Pooling does not create a joint account where you can all see the points together. It just sends points from whomever responds to you, the member who starts the pool. So it’s not much more than an email blast that lets you ask multiple friends to transfer points your way.

Most people will find it simpler to just do a basic point transfer, but if you run short on the 6 you can do each year, you can just add one, or up to 10 emails in a points pool form anytime, and those transfers will count toward the separate 6 point pool transfers per year limit.

I thought that the article above states that transfers take up to 24 hours to show up! Is this true? Your response to Deric states otherwise ( instant transfer) …

@Mag: While some points transfers may appear instantly between accounts, it may take up to 24 hours for points to post to the receiver’s account.

@Greg – They would stay active for at least 12 months, and any activity will reset the clock another 12 months.
