JetBlue award sale – find flights under 3,000 points

by on Thu April 6, 2017 • 2 Comments

JetBlue is out with a flash award sale that takes 20% off the price of all awards when you take into account these three requirements:

  • Book by Saturday, April 8
  • Fly May 2 – June 7, 2017 (Blackout Dates May 24 – May 30)
  • Fly only on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday (not valid for fights on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday)

JetBlue prices awards based on how much a ticket costs in cash, so when cash tickets are cheap, awards in points are cheap. And with this 20% off sale they can get really cheap.

Like 2,700 points to fly from New York to Boston…

Or 5,500 points for New York to Orlando, versus $120 in cash, getting you over 2 cents per point in value.

JetBlue’s best deals are on its cheapest fares.

While this sale does apply to JetBlue Mint tickets, your value per point for those isn’t nearly as good as it is for really cheap coach tickets.

There’s nothing special you need to do to get the sale price. It’s automatically calculated when you search on

If you really want to experience Mint, Citi has a bonus on transfers to JetBlue through the end of the month. With this 20% off TrueBlue award sale, you can do Mint BOS-LAX for around 58K TYP.

I’m sure you could also transfer 58K TYP to some obscure airline and pay fuel surcharges for a one-way flight to a destination you don’t actually want to go to, but this seems like a pretty good use of TYP to me.

Or for a little over 1/3 the TYP cost (21K) you could rough it in econ.
