The pocket of good AA biz class award space to Europe next summer

by on Wed October 12, 2016 • No Comment

Award space on American’s own flights to Europe has been abysmal of late, leaving paying $500+ fuel surcharges on British Airways flights the only option on many days.

And with all of next summer’s flights now available for booking with AAdvantage miles it’s looking even more bleak for Business Class awards, with most routes showing no MileSAAver award space at all, forcing you to pay double or more the 115,000 mile roundtrip rate.

There’s one bright spot though.

Manchester, England.

American has one flight daily from New York JFK to Manchester and back, and for much of June there’s lots of award space available. BA doesn’t fly nonstop from New York to Manchester, so the space you see here is all on American Airlines.

Space is open for as many as 4 people at at time

But it dries up in July only to come back in early August

The return is even more wide open, with good availability even in July.

But it’s a 10:25 am departure from Manchester to New York, so you’re probably stuck spending the night in Manchester if you’re trying to get home from somewhere else in Europe.

There’s also wide open space in the spring to Manchester…

Manchester might not be the most exciting place, but it is centrally located.

You can connect on BA to London to get to the rest of Europe. Or just hop on one of dozens of low cost carrier flights each day all over Europe.

And if Manchester isn’t your thing, there’s still an opportunity to take advantage of decent Iberia award space, which has been open for a couple months now. There are minimal fuel surcharges on Iberia awards.

Here’s Boston to Madrid for two passengers in June.

You can’t search and book Iberia award flights on the American Airlines website, but you can call to book, and if you want to search in advance, here are some places to check for space.
