Australia and New Zealand are some of the hardest places to reach with your miles if you’re hoping to fly in Business Class, and avoid a 15 hour slog in Economy.
United MileagePlus has space for 4, 5, or more people per flight on many days next summer to New Zealand, while American AAdvantage has lots of space for one person to Australia, including many rarely available flights in First Class on Qantas.
Here’s San Francisco to Auckland with United MileagePlus…the dates with dashes have Business Class seats available for at least 4 passengers at 70,000 miles one way.
And there’s space on the way back, though finding space for 2 people is easier than 4 or more…
You’ll be flying United’s 787 Dreamliner, which doesn’t have the fanciest Business Class seats in the sky, but they’re all fully flat and plenty comfortable for the price.
And July isn’t the greatest time to visit New Zealand, since it’s the dead of winter for them. But it’s not entirely frozen either, with highs in the 60s that are a nice break from the sweltering summer heat in the U.S.
If you prefer Australia and warmer months, American AAdvantage is a good bet right now if you’re a solo traveler.
There’s lots of space for one person per flight on many days in April, May, and June from Los Angeles to Sydney – via American’s nonstop or connections in San Francisco or Dallas with Qantas.
These flights will set you back 80,000 miles one way.
Or, if you prefer to fly First Class, rare Qantas award space is available from Los Angeles to Melbourne for 110,000 miles one way on a big A380. The catch is you need to be flying solo, as there’s only one award seat available on most flights.
There’s no more luxurious way to get to Australia than Qantas First Class…
And space coming back is even more widely available.
American AAdvantage lets you hold awards for up to 5 days free of charge, so grab some space while you can and decide later.
