Delta has just launched its first monthly ‘flash sale‘ offering awards on sale for a 48 hour window.

This deal is for all travel from the U.S. to the Caribbean and Mexico beach destinations with Delta, and you can save up to 35% off the usual lowest award prices.

And unlike prior award sales, this one applies to all classes of service: Economy, Comfort Plus, and First Class.

One-way prices are:

  • Economy: 10 – 11,000 miles (vs 17,500)
  • Comfort Plus: 14,500 miles (vs 22.500)
  • First Class: 19,500 miles (vs 30,000)

The catch:

  • You need to book by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 17
  • You can only travel from September 6 – November 16 (which is basically hurricane season)

Travel is good to any of these destinations to and from the mainland U.S.:

Antigua & Barbuda (ANU)

Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ)

Aruba (AUA)

Marsh Harbour, Bahamas (MHH)

Bermuda (BDA)

Nassau, Bahamas (NAS)

Barbados (BGI)

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (PAP)

Bonaire (BON)

Providenciales, Turks & Caicos (PLS)

Cancun, Mexico (CUN)

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)

Cozumel, Mexico (CZM)

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR)

Eleuthera, Bahamas (ELH)

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ)

Freeport, Bahamas (FPO)

Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD)

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands (GCM)

Saint Maarten (SXM)

Georgetown, Bahamas (GGT)

Saint Lucia (UVF)

Kingston, Jamaica (KIN)

Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI)

There’s some good value if you’re willing to travel these dates, especially from the West Coast to the Caribbean, where fares are often $200 or more one way, giving you 2 cents or more in value for your miles.

And availability is pretty broad, here with Turks and Caicos available most dates for 10,000 miles one way.

The better news is that these sales will be monthly.

And with Delta including First Class fares in this sale, there’s a chance more interesting values like Business Class to Europe could go on sale for off peak months.

It’s also interesting that Delta is benchmarking the sale to the lowest typical price – calling the savings ‘35% off,’ which is some sign that it at least internally operates with a ‘Saver’ award price as a floor.

But as nice as these prices are, the flash nature makes it hard to plan, which is what Delta has in mind as it weans members off the idea that you should save miles for a far out award at a set price, and instead tries to get you to use your miles as quickly as you earn them.

And limited time sales that are decent deals if you’re careful are one way to do that, though 48 hours is hardly enough time to request time off work and coordinate schedules as a couple or family.

As a reminder, United is also currently running a (longer) sale for awards within the U.S. and to much of Asia.
