Inside the new United Club with more food options than ever (and some of it is free)

United just opened a renovated United Club at Chicago O’Hare this week, near gate B18.

In addition to the modern decor that’s been used at other renovated clubs over the last couple of years, there are some big upgrades to the food experience.

First, there’s now paid food available for purchase, delivered seat side wherever you are in the club, including deep dish Giordano’s pizza.

And in a nice surprise, there are new free food options, including hot entrees like eggs for breakfast, bigger salads, and bigger plates to hold all the food.


They’re still offering the hot soup and cold cuts that got added last year…


For drinks, there’s now a custom Coke Freestyle machine, along with infused waters like you’ll find at some Delta Sky Clubs


The bar now offers premium mixologist inspired cocktails (for a fee), with the usual complimentary wine and beer, including better regional beer options.


And items on the paid Club Bistro menu include…

  • Chopped salad with chicken (and bacon, pasta, and blue cheese) for $14
  • Turkey avocado sandwich for $10
  • Caprese skewers for $7
  • 6″ stuffed pepperoni pizza from Giordano’s for $14

And while the sandwich and salad prices sound high, $14 for the pizza compares to over $19 for the smallest pizza Giordano’s serves at its off-airport locations.

Earlier this year, United announced a partnership with Sodexho to enhance the food and drinks in its clubs, and this is the first rollout of that concept.

Word is O’Hare’s other lounges will get the new food options soon, but no word on when other locations will get it, since it looks like some construction needed to be done to accomplish this. And Newark’s long stale clubs are about to start renovations that will take things to the next level.

With these changes, United clubs are on track to match and exceed what you’ll find in Delta’s Sky Clubs, after some upgrades to its clubs last year, and our guess is each club will get some unique local items on the free and paid menus. Hopefully the paid menu will evolve to have some healthier choices than the cheese and meat oriented items on this first trial.

The changes also make the loss of the $3 discount on premium wine for United Club Card holders a lot more palatable if they get rolled out to all the major clubs quickly.
