Delta SkyMiles is having an award sale for flights to Europe.
Instead of paying 60,000 miles for a roundtrip in Economy, you can score seats for as low as 42,000 miles roundtrip (48,000 miles from about Denver westward).
And while not an advertised part of the sale, you can also find some Business Class awards for just 87,000 miles roundtrip to London (compared to 125,000 miles normally), and a few other destinations with very limited availability, and less discounted rates to some other European destinations like Amsterdam and Zurich as low as 106,000 miles roundtrip.
That’s a savings of up to 30% on both Economy and Business – and you’ll want to lock in those Business Class prices while you can as they’re not advertised.
The sale starts on February 18 for most people, but is available right now as a ‘pre-sale’ if you’re a SkyMiles Amex credit card holder or SkyMiles Medallion member and login to your account on Delta.com to search for flights.
The catch is…
Delta’s award sales aren’t usually very exciting, but 87,000 miles roundtrip to London in Business Class is a steal:
In Economy Class tickets to a lot of European destinations are running over $1,000 roundtrip during much of May, so scoring a seat for 42,000 miles plus the usual taxes can net you a value of about 2 cents per mile, which is pretty good for Economy Class.
Here’s the typical fare from New York to Paris…
And an award flight at 42,000 miles…
This is almost as good a price as the American AAdvantage off peak awards to Europe at 40,000 miles roundtrip.
Even the West Coast gets in on the action at 48,000 miles roundtrip. Here’s Los Angeles to Paris.
And Delta’s seasonal service to Reykjavik also counts.
A week is a long stay, but you do have almost 3 months lead time to ask for time off and plan things if you decide to travel in May.
