Earlier this year, Delta raised many international Business Class award prices and lowered many Economy Class prices for flights departing October 1st or later.
Now, it’s lowered the prices of a few other Economy Class awards.
Mainland U.S. to Sao Paulo, Brazil awards are now 27,500 miles one way (regularly 30,000 miles) through mid-June, saving you 5,000 miles roundtrip.
Don’t think this applies to the rest of Brazil though. Other cities are still 30,000 miles one way.
The U.S. to Bogota, Colombia is now 17,500 miles one way (regularly 22,500 miles), also through mid-June.
And again, it’s just to Bogota. No love for Lima, Peru, Caracas, Venezuela, or Medellin, Colombia.
U.S. to Australia and New Zealand awards are now 45,000 miles one way, down from 50,000 miles, and this price sticks for good, bringing forward the original October 1st effective date of this new price.
Of the awards above, the U.S. to Australia / New Zealand is the only one that could be even remotely a decent deal. You can buy cash tickets to Bogota for less than $400 roundtrip, and flights to Sao Paolo are running less than $600 roundtrip, so you’re barely getting more than one cent per mile in value with these deals.
Flights to Sydney some days run over $1,500 roundtrip, so 90,000 miles gets you about 1.5 cents per mile in value.
Better to save your SkyMiles for a real deal like getting to Europe in Business Class for 62,500 miles one way, saving you thousands in airfare.
For domestic flights, some ultra cheap 5,500 and 7,500 mile awards on short haul flights are now more widely available.
Like San Francisco to Phoenix for 5,500 miles
And San Francisco to Seattle for 7,500 miles
Again, these aren’t good deals, since you can easily snag a San Francisco to Phoenix flight for $49 and one to Seattle for about $69, making your miles worth less than 1 cent each if you redeem for these flights.
