Or, consider other cards for 50,000 more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.
Earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.
$1,000 toward travel or transfer to United, Southwest, and more.
That's $750 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards® or 1:1 point transfer to leading airline and hotel loyalty programs.
Hilton HHonors is a point transfer partner with Citi ThankYou points.
Normally that means you can transfer Citi ThankYou points into your Hilton HHonors account at a rate of 1 ThankYou point = 1.5 HHonors points.
But until January 6, 2016, there’s a 33% bonus on that transfer, so 1 ThankYou point gets you 2 HHonors points.
ThankYou accounts tied to cards with an annual fee like the Citi ThankYou Premier and Prestige are eligible to transfer ThankYou points to partner airline and hotel point programs including Hilton HHonors, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Singapore Airlines Krisflyer, Air France Flying Blue, and more.
Citi offered this same deal a year ago, and it wasn’t a screaming deal then.
Citi ThankYou points from cards that are eligible for point transfer are worth at minimum 1.25 cents each for booking flights and hotels.
Hilton HHonors points aren’t so valuable…
Usually you can get a bit less than half a cent in value per HHonors point. So a $250 hotel night will probably set you back around 60,000 points.
And transferring 1 ThankYou Point to get 2 HHonors points gets you a bit less than 1 cent per ThankYou point you transfer, which loses value. A much better straight up use of ThankYou points is transferring to Air France Flying Blue and redeeming for Delta Airlines, Air France, and other SkyTeam airline flights (see the award chart here).
If you’re short on HHonors points for a free night, and have a specific hotel stay in mind, then topping up your account to hit that level can be well worth it.
For example let’s say you need 60,000 HHonors points to book a $250 hotel night, but you only have 50,000 HHonors points in your account.
And you don’t have any other easy way to earn more Hilton points in time.
In this case, transferring 5,000 ThankYou points will get you10,000 HHonors points. That gets your HHonors account to the 60,000 points you need to save $250 on your hotel, effectively making your ThankYou points worth 5 cents each ($250 in value from 5,000 ThankYou points you transfer).
There are lots of hotels in the Hilton HHonors portfolio.
So if you’re just short of a free night with HHonors, go ahead and transfer a small number of ThankYou points over, and you could get good mileage out of them
