If you’re a Seahawks or Patriots fan headed to the Super Bowl in Phoenix this year, but not ready to pay close to $1,000 in airfare, consider double checking your mileage account.

Phoenix is a great city to head to a Super Bowl if you hold miles because of US Airways and Southwest’s big operations at Sky Harbor Airport. That means some good opportunities to spend a reasonable amount of miles to get to the game.

We checked Monday morning availability for flights to Phoenix on Super Bowl weekend that had 2 or more award seats available.

The winners and losers…

  • American AAdvantage and Southwest Rapid Rewards are the champs, both offering options for 12,500 miles or less that get you from Seattle or Boston to Phoenix by Saturday.
  • US Airways Dividend Miles has 12,500 mile options from Boston on Saturday, but is charging 30,000 miles from Seattle.
  • Delta SkyMiles is the loser here, with a minimum of 32,500 miles one way from both Seattle and Boston, not a strong showing for the airline that wants to be Seattle’s next hometown airline. But it’s not much worse than Alaska MileagePlan which offers one nonstop flight for 30,000 miles on Friday, but no options on Thursday or Saturday.

All prices are one-way. US Airways does not allow one-way award tickets, but prices each direction separately as a one-way.
