At MileCards.com we think few things can ruin a good vacation more than a delayed flight. With more and more awards with miles requiring you have to make a connection to get where you want to go, on time flights are more important than ever.
Specifically for Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), MileCards.com analyzed raw data released this week by the Department of Transportation detailing the on-time performance of airlines during all of 2013. The DOT defines an on-time flight as one that arrives or departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.
For the Albuquerque International Sunport in 2013…
Southwest had the most flights but had a poor on-time record
Southwest operates the most flights into and out of ABQ but was one of the worst for on-time performance, as just 75% of flights were on time (within 15 minutes of schedule) arriving or departing ABQ. The average of all Southwest flights ran 10 minutes later than scheduled.
US Airways had the best on-time performance
US Airways flights ran on-time 90% of the time with the average flight arriving or departing right on schedule.
American Eagle had the worst on-time performance
American Eagle had the worst performance with just 65% of flights considered on-time and an average flight running 21 minutes behind schedule.
Albuquerque overall was similar to the national average
Overall, 78% of flights into and out of Albuquerque International Sunport were on-time with the average flight running 9 minutes behind schedule.
“Albuquerque Sunport’s on-time performance was similar to the national average at 78% vs 79%, but American Eagle’s performance was much worse at just 65% on time versus its national average of 73%,” said Brian Karimzad, director of MileCards.com. “Southwest had a difficult year overall and its on-time rate of just 75% was identical to its national rate, while US Airways performed much better in Albuquerque than its national average with a 93% on-time rate versus 84%.”
