Citi®/ AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ MasterCard.
A lot of us carry a credit card that has some nice hotel privileges without even knowing it.
That includes you if your wallet has a ‘World MasterCard’ in it. That includes popular cards like the Citi® Platinum Select AAdvantage® World MasterCard, the US Airways Dividend Miles® Premier World MasterCard, and the Barclaycard Arrival®. It’s called the World Hotels and Resorts program.
Free breakfast, upgrades, and sometimes even $50 credits at hundreds of upscale (but not overly upscale) hotels in the United States and around the world. All usually for the same low rate you’d find if you booked directly through the hotel.
You’ll find lots popular hotel brands like Hyatt, Westin, W, Omni, and Intercontinental well represented. And the deals are in places as diverse as Maui, Little Rock, New York, and Phuket. So you’ll be able to stay in reasonably priced hotels (think around $200 a night, rather than uber fancy $500 a night hotels) and enjoy real savings on breakfast and in some cases flat out dollar credits.
The best deal seems to be at upscale Starwood properties.
All of the Westin, W, Le Meridien, and St Regis hotels on the list offer a $50 credit – either for any purchases made at the hotel, or for use at the spa. That’s on top of breakfast for 2 daily, a space available room upgrade, and early / late check-in / check-out.
While not all Westin and W hotels are on the program’s list, most of the nicer ones in vacation destinations are available.
The best part is you don’t have to pay an inflated rate to get the benefits. We called and did some checking, and found the rates offered by this program are usually the same as the lowest regular non prepaid room rate offered on the hotel websites.
Here are some examples:
|MasterCard rate||Hotel website rate||Hotel credit||Free breakfast||Early/late check-in/check-out|
|Westin Buckhead Atlanta||$210||$210||$50||Yes||Yes|
|Omni CNN Center Atlanta||$199||$199||NA||Yes||Yes|
|Grand Hyatt Atlanta||$169||$169||NA||Yes||Yes|
|Le Parker Meridien New York||$409||$409||$50 spa credit||Yes||Yes|
|W Westwood, Los Angeles||$339||$299||$50||Yes||Yes|
So the next time you plan a trip, stop at the MasterCard website to see if the hotel you want to use is on the list, and book through MasterCard at 1-800-MC-ASSIST (ask for the Concierge, then to connect to Carlson Wagonlit) to get the perks normally reserved for the hotel’s most frequent guests.
