Starting March 1st, Starwood hotels is enhancing the benefits of its Preferred Guest elite program (SPG announcement). Starwood hotels is the loyalty brand of Westin, Sheraton, W, Four Points, Aloft, Le Meridien, and St. Regis hotels. Specifically, Gold Preferred members will receive a choice of the following new benefits at check in:

If you are a Platinum Card from American Express card member, you are entitled to complimentary Gold Preferred status with Starwood, so you can enjoy these benefits.
Without the card you would need to spend 25 nights or 10 stays at Starwood hotels, or spend $30,000 on a Starwood Preferred Guest American Express each year.

Just note that enrollment in the Gold program isn’t automatic — you need to first call the Platinum Card customer service hotline on the back of your card for a special promotion code, then call Starwood at 1-888-625-4990 to tell them the code and verify you are a Platinum Card holder. They will then upgrade your Starwood status.It’s good for as long as you hold the Platinum Card, though some have noted it can stick around even if you cancel the card.
If you are already a Starwood Gold member, the new benefits will kick in automatically.
