American Express Gold Premier Rewards Full Benefits Guide
Here, we have compiled a comprehensive list of U.S. based American Express Premier Rewards Gold credit card features and benefits — to review whether you are a current card member or thinking of applying. Point earning
3x points on airfare. 3 points for every dollar charged for airfare purchases on all scheduled U.S. and international passenger airlines
2x points on gas and groceries. 2 points for every dollar charged for gas purchases from a stand-alone U.S. gas station, and 2 points for grocery purchases from a U.S. supermarket, in each case provided that the merchant submits its charges under the appropriate merchant code, industry code, or required product or service identifier. Charges at tour operators, charter airlines, and departments of superstores or warehouse clubs are not eligible.
Points have no expiration date. Use them whenever you’re ready, as long as your account is in good standing.
1:1 point to mile transfer to Delta, Air Canada, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, JetBlue, Air France / KLM, AeroMexico, AirTran, Alitalis ANA, ElAl, Hawaiian, Iberia, and Singapore Airlines. Hotels include Priority Club (Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza), Hilton, and Best Western. Transfer to anyone’s account.
Purchase protection
Return Protection: If a merchant doesn’t accept a return, Amex will reimburse you up to 90 days from purchase, $300 per item, $1000 per year
Purchase protection. Reimbursement up to $1,000 per incident, up to $50,000 per calendar year if an item you purchased with the card is damaged or stolen within 90 days of purchase. Note the Platinum Card also adds coverage for items that you simply lose.
Extended warranty. Extends the warranty of products you purchase on the card up to one additional year on warranties of 5 years or less. Will reimburse the value originally charged for the product up to $10,000. If you purchase an extended warranty, it will extend the original warranty by another year, as long as the combined total doesn’t exceed 5 years.
Event ticket protection. The Event Ticket Protection Plan is prepared to handle life’s surprise entrances with reimbursement up to $2,000 per covered incident. This benefit is not available to residents of New York State.
Travel protection / privileges
Car rental collision. Covers damage or theft of a rental vehicle when the card member is the primary renter and uses the card to reserve and pay for the rental with the card. Australia, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Jamaica, and New Zealand are not covered. Coverage is secondary to existing insurance coverage and excludes vehicles with a suggested retail price of $50,000 or more when new.
Baggage insurance. Damaged, lost, or stolen luggage is covered for both carry on and checked bags on a common carrier. You spouse and dependent children under 23 years old are covered. $500 in coverage for checked bags, $1,250 in coverage for carry on bags. The Platinum Card offers $3,000 in coverage for carry on bags and $2,000 for checked bags.
Travel accident insurance. $250,000 in coverage for accidental death or dismemberment while you are travelling on a common carrier when the entire fare has been charged to the card (plane, train, helicopter, ship, or bus).
Roadside assistance: Up to $50 in towing or assistance benefit for each occurrence — call the Amex hotline provided when you get your card. This is valid for both your personal car as well as rentals and borrowed vehicles.
$75 dining credit at hotels. $75 dining credit with a stay of two nights or more at hundreds of Sheraton®, Westin®, W®, and Le Meridien® hotels and resorts by booking with the Gold Card Hotel Program at goldcarddestinations.com.
Preferred seating at Broadway shows. Shows and events at www.americanexpress.com/entertainmentaccess have limited premium seats set aside for card holders. To redeem an American Express Preferred Seating offer, enter the 10-digit Customer Service phone number located on the back of your Card when placing your order or look for the ‘American Express Preferred Seating’ link when booking a ticket.
Global Assist hotline. 24/7 emergency assistance worldwide while traveling more than 100 miles from home.
- Lost passport assistance. Global Assist will work the necessary channels to help you travel again should you lose your passport.
- 24 hour card replacement. American Express can get you a new card within 24 hours and help you cancel all accounts, even competitors’, in the event you lose your wallet.
- Emergency hotel check-in. American Express can front the credit needed to check you into a hotel in the event you lose your cards.
