Or, consider other cards for 50,000 more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.
$1,000 toward travel or transfer to United, Southwest, and more.
Reward nights start at 10,000 points. Free anniversary night (no points needed) good at any IHG hotel (Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, more).
If you have 50,000 SkyMiles burning a hole in your account thanks to the recent deals for the Delta American Express cards, there’s a new offer from SkyMiles made just for you that can save you a lot of miles.
For the next 2 days you’ll get 10,000 miles off a Saver level roundtrip ticket to Europe, Asia, and Southern South America on Delta flights. So a trip to Europe or South America will cost 50,000 miles roundtrip instead of the usual 60,000 miles.
For example a roundtrip from Los Angeles to Paris costs about $1,400 in cash right now on Delta, but just 50,000 miles with the sale. Factoring about $100 in fees, that nets you about 2.6 cents in value for your SkyMiles, a really good deal.
There are also other destinations on sale:
You can access the pricing by logging into Delta.com with your SkyMiles number and searching for awards.
The sad thing about this deal is that you need to have a 7 day minimum stay, so you’ll need to plan for time off work and other accommodations. This isn’t for a quick weekend jaunt.
Here are some other things to watch out for:
You can only fly on Delta flights at this price. Alaska, Virgin Atlantic, and other partners for any segment will make that direction price at normal levels. But if you fly one-way on all Delta flights, that one-way will get the special price.
There are blackout dates. You can’t take advantage of this price from November 20 through December 2, 2014, December 19 through December 24, 2014, December 26 through December 29, 2014, December 31, 2014, January 1 through January 5, 2015, January 16, 2015, January 19, 2015, February 13, 2015 and February 16, 2015.
There is a short season. You can only book flights October 22 through February 28, 2015 at this price.
You won’t get a discount to these destinations. Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Africa, the Middle East, Caracas, Venezuela; Cancun, Mexico, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Sydney, Australia.
It’s only valid for 2 days. It’s not clear whether this sale will be extended to regular SkyMiles members afterward, but SkyMiles American Express cardholders and Medallion members have access until tomorrow, September 23.
