You can now search Jet Airways awards on Delta.com, but United will end its partnership

Jet Airways, India’s second largest, and generally more well regarded for quality airline, is now a partner with Delta SkyMiles and you can search for awards directly on Delta.com.

Before, searching involved setting up an account with Jet Airways and having some miles in your account, or relying on phone agents with partner airlines pinging Jet Airways and waiting up to a day for a response. So having the awards visible on Delta.com is a big step.

Jet Airways doesn’t fly to the United States. It used to serve Newark via Brussels, but ended that about a year ago, instead operating flights from Amsterdam to Delhi and Mumbai, and relying on Delta for connections to the U.S.

It also flies from Toronto to Amsterdam, letting you ride Jet Airways all the way through to India. And in Europe it serves Paris, Milan, and London.

Here’s space on Toronto to Mumbai…

And here’s space within India on Delhi to Mumbai…

Award prices are the same (bad) ones Delta introduced last fall on its own flights:

U.S. to India

  • Economy: 40,000 miles one way
    Business: 97,500 miles one way

Europe to India

  • Economy: 35,000 miles one way
    Business: 65,000 miles one way

Within India

  • Economy: 12,500 miles one way
    Business: 25,000 miles one way

If you’re willing to pay the nearly 200,000 miles roundtrip for a Business Class award, space is pretty good, and it’s now a lot easier to use Delta SkyMiles to get to India. And if you’re going to smaller cities beyond Delhi and Mumbai, searching for award space is a lot easier now that Jet Airways is loaded on Delta.com.

If you don’t want to pay Delta’s prices, you can use United MileagePlus miles until March 25, when the United and JetAirways partnership will end.

With United miles, you pay 80,000 miles one way in Business Class, but 42,500 miles one way in Economy. You’ll have to call MileagePlus on 1-800-864-8331 to book.

Korean Skypass, a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, is another option at 170,000 miles roundtrip in Business, but not so useful in Economy Class at 100,000 miles. You’ll also have to call Korean on 1-800-438-5000 to book, and Korean will put award space on hold while you do a transfer from Chase to fill up your Korean account. They’ll also let you do a free stopover, which is easy to do in Europe since you need to connect there anyway.

And American AAdvantage will let you book for 70,000 miles one way in Business Class. You can also mix Jet Airways flights with American flights, so it’s easy to piece together connections to Jet’s Toronto – Amsterdam flight.
