If you’re looking to use your Hilton HHonors points for a Caribbean vacation, here are our favorite Hilton redemptions in the Caribbean first based on overall value and style, for families, luxury, beaches, and for the fewest points.
For research purposes, we checked the same dates at all properties to determine approximate value per point. We looked at a couple weekday low season dates as well as a few weekend high season rates to try to get a good value range.
We value Hilton points at just under half a cent each, so that’s a good baseline for a redemption. Anything above 1 cent is a great deal (like a $350 hotel for 35,000 points), and getting 2 cents per point in value is a rare but outstanding deal. When booking with Hilton points it is typically very difficult to find value even as high as 1 cent per point, as you will see in our valuations for Hilton Caribbean properties below.
Some of the most valuable properties in the Caribbean we have found didn’t even always reach a value of 0.5 cents per point and we typically wouldn’t recommend using your Hilton points at these properties even though they are the highest value properties we have found. It would make more sense to spend cash at these hotels and earn more Hilton point than use your Hilton points unless you are looking to get rid of them or have a lot of points.
That said, here are our picks for the best value Hilton properties in the Caribbean:
Waldorf Astoria properties and other high-end Hilton Properties were considered in the Luxury category.
Located in Puerto Rico, El Conquistador is a great luxury hotel to stay at if you are looking for a relaxing, low hassle trip. As an American, no passport is necessary to travel to Puerto Rico, so it is a great place to visit while you are waiting on your passport renewal to process. El Conquistador costs between 30,000 and 60,000 Hilton points to book and we saw values right around 0.45 cents per point during all dates we checked.
Though it’s only a 4-star hotel, we think that this Hilton Aruba deserves to be in the luxury category. The hotel is beautiful and has absolutely stellar ratings. Nights can be booked for between 50,000 and 80,000 points per night though values are relatively low at around 0.4 cents per point on the dates we checked. If you have a lot of points to spend and want to see the clear blue waters in the Southern Caribbean, you’ll enjoy the service provided by the Hilton Aruba even though you’ll be paying a bit of a points premium.
Hotels that could be booked for 20,000 points per night or less were considered for the Budget category. Unfortunately, Hilton does not have many hotels in the Caribbean (or anywhere) that fall into this category. The only hotel that can be booked for as low as 20,000 points is the Embassy Suites in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During the dates we checked, it priced out at 30,000 points, but we will still include it in this category.
If you want to stay in a hotel on a budget, it usually means not staying in the most ideal location or compromising comfort. The Embassy SUites by Hilton in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic is a relatively good points price but you will compromising a little bit on location considering the hotel is located in the middle of the city, away from the beach. If you don’t mind having to travel a little bit further to get to the water and are looking to save some points, this hotel is a great option.
The Dominican Republic’s best beaches are within a 50-minute drive of the hotel and you’re also within walking distance of the vibrant night life of the city, though you may prefer to take a taxi after dark. Value on the dates we checked ranged between 0.36 and 0.56 and the hotel costs between 20,000 and 30,000 points per night to book. The dates we checked prices were always 30,000 points per night. Saving an additional 10,000 points per night would surely make this hotel fall better within the budget category.
The British Colonial Hilton in Nassau, Bahamas is a great choice if you are traveling with the family. Located less than 2 km from the Ardastra Gardens Zoo and just over 2 km from Fort Fincastle, you’ll have plenty to do both on and off the beach. Better yet, the hotel is only 16 km from the airport, so you can get your vacation started right away. The hotel can be booked for a pretty reasonable 30,000 to 50,000 points per night with values between 0.40 and 0.60 per night on the dates we checked.
You can book rooms at the Caribe Hilton a few different ways, but we recommend booking the Candado Lagoon Villas part of the property when possible as values tended to be higher. The Caribe Hilton is a great hotel to take the family to especially if the kids are a little bit older. The hotel is located about 3 km from Old Town San Juan which is a great exploration base for the day. Puerto Rico is an especially great place to visit if you don’t have passports for your kids yet because Americans do not need a passport to visit the island. Those savings can really add up if you are looking to test out an ‘international’ destination for the first time! The Condado Lagoon Villas at the Caribe Hilton can be booked for between 30,000 and 50,000 points per night with values between 0.52 and 0.66 cents per point on the dates we checked.
The Hilton Barbados Resort is located on a gorgeous beach and you just can’t beat the waters of Barbados. The beach area isn’t as big as some other resorts in the Caribbean, but as long as you are not traveling during peak-season there should be plenty of room, especially if you are willing to wake up a little early and go claim your spot for the day. Points prices range quite a bit, from 40,000 to 70,000 points per night, though they were on the higher end of the range for all of the dates we checked with value consistently around 0.5 cents per point.
The Hilton Curacao is one of the best Hilton properties in the Caribbean if you are looking to spend a lot of time on the beach or in the water. Not only is the points price pretty reasonable, between 30,000 and 40,000 point per night, but especially if you are interested in scuba diving or snorkeling, you can’t beat the island of Curacao.
Again, the beach area is a bit on the smaller side, so if laying on the beach is your primary goal, be prepared to wake up early to claim your spot especially if you are traveling during high season. Values on the dates we checked ranged from 0.46 to 0.54 cents per point.
These are just a start – it’s always worth spending time to research other hotels that you might be interested in staying at and what availability and value looks like on your specific travel dates.
