Or, consider other cards for 50,000 more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.
Reward nights start at 10,000 points. Free anniversary night (no points needed) good at any IHG hotel (Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, more).
$1,000 toward travel or transfer to United, Southwest, and more.
There was a 70,000 point offer available for the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card from Chase but it’s no longer available.
Now it’s up to 80,000 points. You can earn 80,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening. And there’s a $0 Introductory annual fee for the first year, then $49, plus get a free anniversary night each year you hold the card good at any IHG hotel.
The best offer we’ve seen in the past for this card offered 80,000 points with the first year annual fee waived.
We value IHG Rewards points at about a half cent each for hotel redemptions, so you could get about $300 in value out of the introductory offer. That’s about on par with the deal on the no annual fee Hilton HHonors American Express for 75,000 points that comes and goes.
For example, with 70k IHG Rewards points you can get…
A free night at the Hotel Indigo in New York, saving over $300 and still having 20,000 points left over
2 nights at the Holiday Inn in Anaheim, near Disneyland, saving nearly $400, with points left over
2 nights at the Intercontinental Bali resort, saving you over $500
Where you can really score value is with the free night you get on the card’s anniversary each year.
That free night certificate lets you book a night at any of over 5,200 IHG affiliated hotels, getting you a standard room free, including taxes.
For example, you could book the Intercontinental Times Square, saving you $384 or 60,000 points, which is a huge value for a card with a $49 annual fee.
And you get that perk every single year you decide to keep the card. There isn’t a better one we know of for an annual free night with such a reasonable annual fee.
IHG hotels is a group of over 5,200 hotels that includes Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites, Hualuxe, and Even Hotels worldwide. You can see a list of IHG hotels here.
Boutique Kimpton Hotels are also part of the IHG network, but you can’t yet use your points to get free nights at Kimpton Hotels.
IHG has lots of mid range options around the world, with upscale Intercontinental options in many large cities, but it’s not so good for some resort destinations like Hawaii, where there’s almost nothing worth a vacation, or the Caribbean, where it has less of a presence than other hotel programs like Hilton HHonors or Hyatt Gold Passport.
