Or, consider other cards for 50,000 or more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.

Until December 21, 2015, Amex is offering a 25% bonus on points you transfer from your Membership Rewards account to Hawaiian Miles. That comes just after a 25% bonus for transferring to Iberia Avios launched last week. And a deal for 50,000 points when you get a Hawaiian Airlines credit card was also recently extended.
Hawaiian Miles basically have three good uses:
1. Getting around among the Hawaiian islands
2. Getting to and from the mainland with decent award availability
3. Getting to Tahiti, Australia or New Zealand via Hawaii at a decent price
Key Hawaiian awards price as follows when you factor the 25% bonus (you can see the full award chart with the regular prices here):
And Hawaiian flies to these airports on the U.S. mainland
You can fly anywhere among the Hawaiian islands for 7,500 miles one way with Hawaiian Miles. Flights are usually cheap in cash, but when you factor the 25% bonus it’s like getting a flight for 6,000 miles one way, which is hard to beat from an absolute low number of points to use.
And there’s no penalty for connections, so if you need to say go from Kona on the Big Island to Kauai, with a stop in Honolulu, that’s cool for the same price.
And 6,000 Amex points for a ticket that normally goes for $120 or so is not a bad deal, especially considering how few points you’re using.
As for the mainland…16,000 Amex points for a one way ticket isn’t bad. That’s worth about $300 or so, sometimes more, especially if you take Hawaiian’s JFK to Honolulu flight, which often costs $600 or more one way, making 16,000 points an outstanding bargain if you can find seats.
But if you live on the West Coast you can do better by transferring to British Airways Avios and flying for 12,500 points one way.
While Membership Rewards points no longer transfer one to one into British Airways Avios, there is a 25% transfer bonus this month for moving Membership Rewards points to Iberia Avios.
And once you do that you can turn your points into British Airways Avios, so it’s a way to transfer your Membership Rewards into British Airways Avios at one to one.
If you can find yourself a cheap way to get to Hawaii, whether it’s with Avios or a good cash ticket, Hawaiian has some pretty good deals for some very long flights.
Hawaiian has nonstops to:
And you can fly them for 22,000 – 32,000 points one way if you find Super Saver level seats. That can be worth 2-3 cents per point or more with fares costing $500 or more one way on these routes.
You can find Hawaiian award space by creating a free Hawaiian Miles account and logging in to do a search on HawiianAirlines.com.
American AAdvantage no longer allows awards on Hawaiian from the U.S. mainland to Hawaiian, so using it to search for Hawaiian Airlines awards isn’t useful anymore.
