45,000 point Wyndham Rewards bonus = 3 all inclusive nights for 4 people

by on Wed November 18, 2015 • 4 Comments

Wyndham Rewards has a dead simple rewards program.

Any Wyndham affiliated hotel can be booked for 15,000 points a night. As long as a standard room is available for sale, you can book it with points at that price.

wyndham170There are two credit cards that earn Wyndham Rewards points – the Wyndham Rewards Visa with a $69 annual fee (yes, the name is that bland) and the Wyndham Rewards Visa with No Annual Fee.

Until recently the sign on bonus for the $69 card was just 30,000 points. But now, you can get a total of 45,000 points from the card. You get 30,000 point after your first purchase, plus an extra 15,000 points after you spend $1,000 on the card within 90 days.

The $69 annual fee is NOT waived and this deal ends December 8, 2015 according to the Wyndham website.

The no annual fee card is less exciting on the bonus front. You can get a total of 18,000 points, up from 15,000 points before. You get 15,000 after your first purchase and another 3,000 points after you spend $1,000 on the card within 90 days.

These bonuses, spotted on Reddit, tend to go up and down during the year, and this matches the highest intro bonus we’ve seen for these cards in the last couple of years.

Is this a good deal?

You can use Wyndham points to book nights at Wyndham, Tryp, Wingate, Hawthorn, Microtel, Ramada, Baymont, Knights Inn, Days Inn, Super 8, Howard Johnson, and Travelodge hotels.

Most of the hotels are pretty low budget and not very exciting. And there aren’t a lot of more upscale Wyndham hotels around, and even then they aren’t great deals at 15,000 points a night.

The real way to play this is if you’re interested in staying at the handful of all-inclusive Wyndham resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico.

You can read up on them here.

There are 6 all inclusive Viva Wyndham resorts to choose from:

  • Fortune Beach in the Bahamas
  • Dominicus Beach in the Dominican Republic
  • Dominicus Palace in the Dominican Republic
  • Tangerine in the Dominican Republic
  • Azteca in Riviera Maya, Mexico
  • Maya in Riviera Maya, Mexico

These resorts often cost $400 a night during the peak season, so one single sign up bonus can save you $1,200 or more on a 3 night stay.

And if you’re a family of four, you can all stay in one room at the single 15,000 point rate. 2 adults and 2 kids will have all their meals included for that price, with no cash needed.

It’s easy to search for awards on the Wyndham site.

You don’t need to login.

All you need to do is click ‘Redeem Wyndham Rewards’ when you do a hotel search.

If you really want to stretch your points, Wyndham has ‘Go Fast Awards’ that let you combine cash and points in an award. For example you can book an all inclusive bungalow at the Dominicus Beach for just 3,000 points plus $75 a night, which makes your points worth over 10 cents each versus paying $400 in cash.

The catch is with the ‘Go Fast Awards’ you do pay more if you have more than 2 adults in your room, so kids cost extra. But it’s still an outstanding point value if you want to stretch them over a week and save big on the cash rate.

So if you’re up for the tradeoffs that come with the value of a middle of the road all inclusive resort – go for this card. There’s no cheaper way to stay at an all inclusive without a push timeshare sales pitch.
