All the airlines you can fly with Chase Ultimate Rewards point transfers

Chase Ultimate Rewards points for Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Plus cardholders are incredibly useful because you can transfer them to real airline miles with United MileagePlus, Southwest Rapid Rewards, British Airways Executive Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Korean Skypass, and Singapore KrisFlyer.

But that doesn’t mean you’re limited to using your points to fly 6 airlines.

In fact, you can use your points to book awards on over 100 airlines because of all the partner airlines each program has.

They can be hard to keep track of, so we’ve compiled a list of just about every airline you can book with Ultimate Rewards transfer partners.

The list includes what program to transfer to, what sites are good for checking award space, and general guidelines on how flexible each option is for stopovers and open jaw routings. We also have some color on which options let you avoid fuel surcharges and links to award charts so you can see how much an award will cost.

A note about Avios. Chase points transfer directly into British Airways Executive Club Avios, but there are two other programs that use Avios – Iberia Plus and Avios.com. Some airline partners are only available with the other flavors of Avios. But that’s not a problem – you can transfer to and from each Avios flavor any time. The helpful British Headforthepoints blog has a primer on how to move around between them. Avios are also ‘distance based’ so you need to pay a separate number of points for each flight that’s part of your trip. This can save you points on nonstop trips, but cost you many more if your trip involves connecting flights.

Before you transfer. Remember that transfers out of Chase points into airline partners can’t be reversed. So be sure you want to book an award with a partner before you do the point transfer. And make sure you enter the right partner account number. If you send your points to the wrong airline account, you generally can’t move them to another one with the airline, though some will do it for a fee.

This is an Amazing resource! Is there any equivalent guide for Amex Member Rewards or Citi Thank You Points or Capital One Venture miles?

@Rachel – Yes – you can’t even book WOW via the Chase website. Though you could decide to just ask for statement credit for cash back. You’d get 1 cent per point in value for that.

I got this card because I wanted to be able to fly to Africa.
I need to fly into either Johannesburg or Windhoek in Namibia.
    Any advice?
I am worried this card might not have been the right choice!!

So I have done extensive research on booking from DFW to AMS. No matter which other hub/city I choose, AA will only offer the PHL or non BA flight at the Anytime Award of 65K from those cities (same as DFW). They also do not offer it on the 50K Bus. As a test run I tried being the first one out of the gate for the current future day availability to see if I could grab it. Nope, not offered. My return flight options aren’t any better. Looks like I will be paying the fees. My only strategy now is to book it, pay and then keep checking to see if it opens before we leave? I can change up to 21 days before as long as the start end is the same without change fees, right? Any other ideas? My actual travel dates will be April 27, 2016 and return May 14, 2016 afternoon or later.

I am confused. I am considering opening a Chase Sapphire for the award bonus, but I only have AA miles. It sounds like I would could not transfer miles to AA account – only to BA if I joined their award program. Is this correct? I live in Dallas area, so most flying is via AA. I try to avoid BA due to the ridiculous fees when traveling from DFW to Europe.

@Kathryn- You are correct – you can’t transfer these miles to an AA account and need to open a BA account to use the points on AA flights. And there are big fees to Europe if you use BA miles.

Where this would be useful is using BA miles to book AA flights closer to home – which don’t have any of those fees. The BA program charges miles based on how far you fly. And there can be some bargains. For example it costs only 4,500 points to fly a flight of 651 miles or less on AA (like Dallas to Houston) using BA points. Even places like Cancun are cheap – 7,500 points one way from Dallas.

You can read more about it here.

Wow – thank you for your quick response. That info helps. Question – the flights from DFW to Hubs (PHL or MIA) that offer non London flights for my next trip going to AMS are American flights – would these likely be offered at the lower rate on BA than the 12.5K the AA wants for them (same flight)? This is my workaround strategy for getting the lower cost award – currently this flight award is only available for 65K from DFW – that is 45K more that the other flights, but those flights add $1000 fees. Either way using AA I am out an extra 12.5 K (x2) to get to a different hub or $1000 fees for 2 tickets. Grrr Maybe I will get lucky and be able to grab the DFW-PHL-AMS award at the 20K level as soon as it becomes available for April 27, 2016? One can hope, but I am looking at options, and Chase Sapphire may be one. Then, I have to get home with the same hope of avoiding London! 🙂 Thank you, again for your input. Too bad AA took away the free stopover option. I used that to get lower fees to London last year (when I actually wanted to go to London!) by going through JFK. I appreciate your input.

@Kathryn – Looks like there’s plenty of availability DFW-LHR-AMS, with AA on the DFW-LHR portion both in Economy and Business. The fees are pretty reasonable – about $127 one way in Business, because you’re avoiding BA on the overwater flight.

So hang tight and even waiting a week after the flight initially loads may give you good luck.

Spectacular compilation, great work! If you could add the time transfers require and if they allow award holds, it would be the best Ultimate Rewards resource I’ve ever seen.

    Thanks!

@Peteco – Good idea we’ll dig into it. Though with Chase they’re all pretty much instant or within a day.

I that’s the case for the mayor partners, but the more obscure ones ( the ones that many times offer outsized value) something have delays. I’m pretty sure Korean transfers take 48 hours and they don’t have holds, which makes the whole deal more risky.
Thanks for the time you’re putting into this.

i know of the difficulties getting premium class seats on Lufthansa using UA miles. Is it as difficult using Singapore miles?

    Reply
    1. MileCards.com

@Dave – It’s similar to other partners like Aeroplan, where you will find less availability than what Lufthansa gives to its own Miles and More members.

Great compilation of info. Thanks. One question and one point:
    1) It looks like Air NZ has been file incorrectly under Africa/ME.
    2) Do you know if the Virgin Atlantic partner award charts are roundtrip or oneway? It’s not clear from the website.
    Thanks.

    1. MileCards.com

@Al – Thanks for the heads up – it’s moved now. Virgin Atlantic partner charts are pretty sloppy – with some roundtrip, and some one way. For example the Virgin Australia chart shows roundtrip values, but then has a footnote that says one ways are available for half the price of a roundtrip.
