What’s the deal?
If you’re living near the New York area or can get there easily, there is a real, legitimately filed fare for $1,700 roundtrip in Business Class from New York to Paris on most dates this summer that’s been uncovered on the BoardingArea blogs.
And if you join AARP for $16 you can get $400 off that fare when booking via the British Airways website, bringing it down to $1,300.
It’s okay to join AARP as someone under age 50, you just won’t get all of the benefits full over 50 AARP members receive, but this travel discount applies.
And if you happen to have a British Airways Visa card, you’ll get another 10% off, bringing it down to $1,167.
If you search for a pair of tickets as a couple, the price is $3,000 roundtrip, which brings the AARP price down to $1,100 per ticket and the Visa discount to $982 per ticket.
Who can you fly?
The fare is good on American, British Airways, and OpenSkies flights to Paris for most of this summer. Fares are good from mid May to the back half of August.
Where can you find it?
You can easily find them by searching on BA.com, AA.com, or using Google Flights.
These fares will let you earn full, real miles with American, British Airways, or any other partner airline. Though note if you book via British Airways’ website and want to earn American miles you won’t earn bonuses for Business Class travel on top of your usual mile earning.
If you’re planning on using an AARP discount, go to this link on BA.com and enter your AARP credentials to shop for flights with the $400 discount already applied.
Why is this happening?
There’s a new airline called La Compagnie based in France which has been offering all-business class flights for $1,700 roundtrip from New York to Paris, and American and British Airways have decided to match their fares in an effort to keep them at bay.
Airlines are competing, and you win with this deal, but it might not last, so book fast.
