Or, consider other cards for 50,000 more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.
$1,000 toward travel or transfer to United, Southwest, and more.
No annual fee, Hilton Honors™ Card from American Express. Terms apply.
What’s the deal?
For a while now, you’ve been able to earn 70,000 points by opening the standard personal version of the Marriott Rewards Premier Credit Card from Chase as a Marriott Rewards member.
The Marriott Rewards Premier Business Credit Card has an introductory offer of 70,000 points after you spend $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months.
There’s a $99 annual fee. You also get a free night at a Category 1-5 hotel every year on your anniversary.
(The information related to The Marriott Rewards Premier Business credit card has been collected by MileCards.com and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer of this card.)
What’s this worth?
Marriott points are generally worth about a half a cent each, so this could be worth $350 or so in free hotel nights.
Here’s a chart that shows how many free nights your points will earn you based on what category hotel you book. If you really stretch it out you could get 10 free nights out of the deal.
Want Southwest Companion Pass?
You can transfer Marriott points to Southwest Rapid Rewards, and these transfers count toward the 110,000 Southwest qualifying points you need each year for Companion Pass status, with 70,000 Marriott points getting you 25,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points.
This is really helpful if you’re running short on Southwest cards to apply for if you want to get Companion Pass a 2nd or 3rd year.
For example, you could apply for the…
And get over 100,000 Southwest points, getting you almost to the 110,000 needed for Companion Pass status with just one Southwest card application.
An even better deal can earn you Companion Pass faster if you have a big Marriott balance or apply for more than one Marriott earning card.
250,000 Marriott Points will get you 100,000 Rapid Rewards points plus 7 nights at any Category 1-5 Marriott hotel.
And you don’t have to book the hotel at the same time as your flights – you just use the hotel nights whenever you’d like as an added bonus.
To earn this you can get 140,000 Marriott points via the Premier personal and business cards.
Then another 70,000 from the Ritz Carlton Rewards card, giving you 210,000 points.
Then you can get another 40,000 Marriott points via the Chase Sapphire Preferred (which earns Ultimate Rewards points that transfer 1:1 into Marriott), or any Ultimate Rewards points you might already have.
That’s 250,000 Marriott points in total.
While transferring Ultimate Rewards points to Southwest doesn’t qualify for Companion Pass, transferring Ultimate Rewards to Marriott is OK. That lets you transfer from Marriott to Southwest, which does qualify for Companion Pass.
Transfer to United for higher value
This is another option that can get you more value than just Marriott hotel nights.
While Marriott points for hotel stays are often worth about a half a cent each, you can transfer Marriott points to United MileagePlus miles at any time, with 56,000 Marriott points netting you 25,000 United miles.
And 25,000 United miles can be worth $500 or more if you use them right, for example if you’re saving for a big international trip or for an expensive domestic ticket.
That can be a better deal than using the points for free hotel nights.
