Or, consider other cards for 50,000 or more miles or points that transfer into United miles with additional flexibility for your everyday spending.
$750 for air / hotel / car bookings. Or transfer points to United, Southwest, Hyatt, and more.
No annual fee.
If you’re looking to top off your Hilton HHonors account, consider this method to earn some extra points and get a statement credit with no annual fee.
What is the deal?
Get a Hilton HHonors American Express credit card and spend $750 in purchases within the first 3 months, and you’ll get 50,000 HHonors points, plus a $50 statement credit after your first purchase of any kind.
This is better than the standard current offer of 40,000 points with no statement credit, and another offer for 50,000 points with no statement credit.
This card has offered as many as 65,000 points as a bonus, but with higher spending requirements to receive them.
American Express has a once in a ‘lifetime’ rule for getting the bonus on a single card product. So if you’ve had this specific card before, you may not be eligible for the bonus.
How can you get the deal?
To get it, you need to go to Hilton.com and go through the process of making a reservation.
You don’t need to be logged in to do this, though it will ask for your name and address.
Right when you get to the payment page, an offer will appear for the 50,000 + $50 Hilton HHonors American Express.
You can apply via that link completely independently of the hotel reservation, so you won’t be on the hook for a hotel night.
What can you do with the points?
On their own, 50,000 points don’t get you a whole lot since many of the better Hilton properties require over 50,000 points for a free night. But if you’re traveling outside the U.S., you can often find good hotels within the 50k or less range, like the Hilton Pureto Vallarta All-Inclusive resort.
Are there better options?
Typically, HHonors points get you about one half a cent in value each, so this bonus is worth about $250, plus the $50 statement credit. That’s not so exciting considering several offers out there can get you $500 or more in value, even for free Hilton nights.
But if you already have a stash of HHonors points, and hold other HHonors cards, this bonus is a good way to top up your account quickly with no fees, and no worries about having to cancel the card to avoid fees in the future.
