citiprestige170AS OF OCTOBER 2014 THE INFORMATION IN THIS POST HAS EXPIRED, WITH NEW BENEFITS FOR THE CITI PRESTIGE

The Citi Prestige Card is an under-rated card that can offer exceptional value despite a $450 annual fee if you use it properly, with benefits including:

  • Access to American Admirals Club lounges
  • A $250 annual airline fee credit
  • Points worth 1.6 cents per dollar on all American / US Airways flights, 60% more than most cards

Unfortunately, Spirit Incentives, the company that handles the companion ticket, has started disclosing on its website for cardholders that the benefit will end in October of 2014, saying:

“These benefits will no longer be available effective mid-October 2014. Please refer to the materials that were mailed to you or contact Citi customer service for more.”

Don’t expect any replacement of the benefit from Citi.

The Admrials Club access and 1.6 points per dollar on American / US Airways flights are brand new for 2014 and companion ticket benefits are a dying breed. The US Airways MasterCard is also seeing its last companion certificates issued this year.

But many people got $500 or more in value out of the Citi Prestige companion certificate because you could get 2 for 1 airfare to places like Asia where tickets are very expensive.
