50,000 points from Chase Sapphire Preferred – use on United, Southwest, and more
[UPDATE: THIS BONUS OFFER EXPIRED APRIL 3, 2012]
The Chase Sapphire Preferred offers a limited time offer of 50,000 points if you spend $3,000 on the card within 3 months. That’s not an easy threshold for a lot of people — this is for those with excellent credit – but if you can do it, the 50,000 points is a generous offer.
Points from the Sapphire Preferred card can be transferred directly, 1:1 into your United, Continental, Southwest, British Airways, Korean Airlines, Amtrak, Hyatt, Marriott, and Priority Club (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental) accounts. The 50,000 points is enough for 2 roundtrip domestic tickets on United / Continental, $833 in travel on Southwest, a $500 gift card, or $625 in travel credit when you use Chase’s site to book your travel.

We just got the Capital 1 card which gives us double points. I thought this was a good deal, but now that I have looked into using my points, it appears that the points do not transfer to airline miles on a point per mile basis. In fact, while my I used 100,000 American Advantage miles to fly business class to Europe, it appears I need something like 800,000+ points for the same ticket using my Capital 1 points. Is this correct? If so, is there any other credit card which accrues miles or points which can be used on various airlines on a one point for one mile or better basis?
Thanks.
Can the mileage points be used for international booking using Lufthansa airlines from Boston to Bombay/Delhi?
@Pal – Yes by the points to United or Continental you can book Lufthansa flights as they are Star Alliance partners. Using the reward search at Continental.com will show availability.
Hi
Can the airline points from Chase Sapphire be used to upgrade on Star ALliance partners? Thanks, Deb
@deb – Partner upgrades from coach paid tickets are only valid on full ‘Y or B class’ fares. However you can book a business or first class ticket outright with miles on any of the partner airlines.
